A heel spur can form on the heel bone and are common in patients who have a history of foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis. The first step in the treatment of a heel spur is short-term rest and inflammation control, followed by rest, ice, exercises and stretches, anti-inflammatory medications, shoe inserts and night splints.
Proper footwear, including the use of shoe inserts, is essential in preventing heel spur symptoms from returning.
